Alta Mira Hotel
The Alta Mira, as it was known in the 1880s, was the private residence of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jackson that was later converted into a hotel in 1895.
On December 23, 1926, the hotel succumbed to a devastating fire. Jackson’s son, Ernest, rebuilt Alta Mira as a Spanish-style villa that quickly became a popular hotel and a favorite place for creativity and leisure. Authors Sterling Hayden, Jack London and Charles Nordhoff, resided in the cottages while writing their books.
The property continued as a residential hotel until the mid-1950s when the mansion was converted to luxury suites with fireplaces and balconies. In 2003 it was sold and redone as a bed and breakfast and private dining facility.
Alta Mira finally opened as a residential treatment facility in September 2007.
